Ingredients

Tortilla Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil or lard
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Add the oil and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually pour in warm water while kneading to form a smooth dough.
  • Let the dough rest for 30 minutes, covered, to improve elasticity.
  • Divide into 8 equal balls. Roll each into a thin, round tortilla using a rolling pin.
  • Cook each tortilla in a hot cast iron skillet for about 30 seconds per side or until bubbles form and light browning occurs.
  • Keep warm wrapped in a clean towel until ready to serve.

Notes

These tortillas are perfect for fajitas, burritos, and tacos. Store extra tortillas wrapped in foil or a towel to maintain softness. Reheat gently before serving.
